READ ALL THE UGLY INCIDENTS THAT WRECKED FUNKE AKINDELE’S 1-YEAR MARRIAGE +Other Top Actresses With Failed Marriages

Funke

The Association Of Actresses With Failed Marriages now has a new member. She’s Funke Akindele-Oloyede. And as would be expected once a new member joins them, myriad reasons have been pouring in on what could have led to her marriage collapsing, after just one year.

The union was cemented on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at The Havens Event Centre, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, amidst so much joy and happiness. And among the dignitaries that witnessed it were former LG boss and Lagos State Commissioner, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele and Action Congress of Nigeria spokesperson, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. Over two dozens of her showbiz colleagues were also there. Among them, Ali Baba, Genevieve Nnaji, Ini Edo, Chioma Chukwuka, Omoni Oboli, Jide Kosoko, Denrele Edun, Tiwa Savage, Grace Amah, Desmond Elliot, Ayo Makun, Gbenga Adeyinka, Bakky Adeoye, Sasha, Kunle Coker, Halima Abubakar, Jumobi Damijo, Opeyemi Ayeola, Julius Agwu, Kaffy…
Hear one family friend on how things finally fell apart between the couple: “I’m going to be very sincere and open in this case. Funke is a good girl, but she has 70 percent of the blame for her failed marriage. Her husband has only 30 percent of the blame, and I will tell you why. First, if not for desperation, why would Funke, a Christian, and with her parents as pastors, marry a Muslim and also have an Islamic wedding? That is one. Two, why would she marry a polygamist if not for her desperation? That man has almost ten children from different women. Tell me, which normal girl should ideally jump into such a marriage? Okay, she was expecting the man’s other wives and concubines to welcome her wholeheartedly, abi?
“Another issue that a lot of people are not saying anything about is Funke’s temper. Funke is very, very temperamental, which a lot of people don’t know about. Her husband is a street boy and because of that, both of them were constantly quarreling. None of them wanted to step down for the other most times over some issues.
“There’s also the issue of Funke not having a baby for him. I heard she suffered a miscarriage; I don’t know how true that is, but it also contributed. The women who had children for the man got more of his attention, most times using their children as their talisman. Funke didn’t understand that courtship is different from marriage. She had thought that she would continue to enjoy the kind of attention she was getting from him before marriage. But you know how these things work. They guy kind of became tired at some point. Yes, the power of diminishing return set in and before she knew it, they had started drifting apart.
“Another critical issue was the guy’s source of livelihood. Funke told us he’s into property and all that; what is his company called, where is it situated, who are his clients, how big is the company and so on? She didn’t tell us all that. She was making good money quite alright from producing and all those endorsements for Globacom, Vitafoam, etc, but I heard the sharing formula also contributed. Let me now tell you this – wahala started in the union before, during and after its consummation. Funke traveled often, and without him, to get herself together. She confided this in some friends, particularly her sister, Ayo and mother. As a matter of fact, initially, both of them kept their mother out of it. Until when things started getting out of hand. They hardly attended events together as a couple. In fact, the only major event I sighted both of them was the AY Show, at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. And this was not long after their wedding or so. Love was still ‘shaking’ them then.
“There were also other issues like accusations and counter accusations of unfaithfulness; not knowing each other enough due to short and irregular courtship; interferences from here and there; inability to manage stardom and know that a man is the head of the family and so on and so forth. My dear, there are so many angles that are dirty, but I wouldn’t want to go into that as her friend”.
Meanwhile, Funke had seemed prepared for matrimony. In an exclusive interview she granted YES International! then, she sounded so upbeat and excited. Here are some excerpts…
How does it feel to be finally married?
Happy! It is something that every woman wants and the ultimate is getting married to the man you love and living happily after.
What do you want in a man?
You can’t get a perfect man. What I need is a good looking, humble, God fearing and hard working man.
When was the first time you fell in love?
I cannot remember, I am not too good with love.
People say that most actresses hardly make good wife materials. Do you agree with that?
It depends on your person. I’m from a very good home. I don’t agree. I pray I make a good home, for my marriage to stay long. God, I will make a good home o!
Why do marriages of most actresses fail?
Other people’s marriages also fail. So, it is not all about actresses. All I can say is just try your best to enjoy your marriage; your happiness matters. Don’t get married because everybody is getting married. When God says it’s time, you will surely get married, and when you meet the right person you love. Anybody can have a failed marriage.
HER RISE TO FAME AND FORTUNE
Funke Akindele was born 36 years ago into the family of Rev. Godwin and Mrs. Rachael Akindele. Both parents are from Ikorodu, Lagos State. An old student of Grace Children School and Lagos State Model College, she has a diploma in Mass Communication from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ogun State and a degree in Law from University of Lagos. Starting out with a role in I Need to Know, a TV drama produced by Llyod Weaver and Naked Wire, an Opa Williams flick, she had initially wanted to operate from the English arm of the movie industry. But when all her efforts yielded very little, she crossed over to the Yoruba sector where not long after super stardom became her lot. The 2009 AMAA Best Actress and one-time Future Awards Best Actress, she had looked forward, prayed fervently and hoped ceaselessly to settling down happily and forever too. Unfortunately, her marriage to Alhaji Al-Maroof Kehinde Oloyede lasted barely one year before hitting the rocks.
Prior to then, however, she was an item with Kunle Coker, also an actor. Rumors of a secret dalliance had equally hovered around her and another colleague, Femi Adebayo. Then, much later, Steel, the sexy crooner. Although all of them have continued to deny that vehemently. Influenced heavily by the likes of Liz Benzon, Barbara Soky, Joke Silva, late Bimpe Adekola, Sandra Bullock and Julia Robert, she’s featured in hundreds of movies; among them Prisoner of Passion, Haunted Love, Final Whistle, Iru Oka, The Return of Jenifa, Maami, Wazo, Lagos Girls, Kulende, Sheri Koko, Ekuro, Imo, Agbefo, Apaadi, Ode Osan, Aje Metta, Awa Obinrin, Taiwo Taiwo, Fenumenu, Akobi Okunrin, Oyun Oloyun, Ere Ewe, Gbarada, Ohun Buruku, Afowofa Obinrin, Oju Gunrege, Baba Gbemileke, Aye Alomoko, Odun Baku, Omo Iya Kan, Atanpako Metta, Edunjobi, Okan Mi, Gbarada…
Attaining super stardom via her inimitable role as Suleya and Jenifa in the monstrously popular and hilarious movie, Jenifa, her first attempt as a producer was in 2004. And the title of the movie, Ojo Ketala. At ease with computer games and music, her favourite musicians are R. Kelly, D’Banj, Eldee, 9ice and 2Face Idibia, while her favorite color is red.
HOW ESTRANGED HUBBY HUMILIATED HER
It was obvious from the tone of his facebook message announcing that their marriage was over that he was out to humiliate her. Without waiting to see whether or not things could still be patched up, Al-Maroof had raced to the social media and declared thus to the whole world: “It’s with heavy heart that am announcing the separation of me and ma wife, Mrs. Olufunke Akindele, we’ve both agreed to go our separate ways coz of irreconcilable differences. We still best of friends and we 4ever remain gud friends. Am doing just fine, getting along without u, don’t need us anymore in ma life, u d greatest mistake av made in recent time…Kehinde Oloyede”.
Expectedly, criticisms have been trailing this ungentlemanly action. Particularly from women, many of whom have labeled him a she-man. A loud-mouth. And Mister Garrulous.
OTHER TOP ACTRESSES WITH FAILED MARRIAGES
Funke, of course, is not the only top actress with a failed marriage. Other members of the club include Monalisa Chinda, Vivian Metchie, Bukky Wright, Eucharia Anunobi, Chika Ike, Shan George, Stella Damasus, Kate Henshaw, Oge Okoye, Fathia Balogun, Uche Osotule, Ayo Adesanya, Laide Bakare, Iyabo Ojo, Steph Nora Okere, Clarion Chukwura, Stephaine Okereke, Doris Simeon…
FUNKE, SISTER, MOTHER KEEP MUM
As a responsible medium, we’ve been on Funke’s trail since the story broke. We’ve called her number severally and even sent text messages without getting any response. Same with her sister, Ayo Akindele Ola – Muhammed, who also doubles as her media manager.
A little luck, however, smiled on us on Thursday, July 18, 2013 when we got through to her mother. Hear her: “I don’t know you and you don’t expect me to start saying things that I know not to someone I don’t know. All these questions and any other you may want to ask me are not meant for me. May God bless you in Jesus’ name”. And she hung the phone.
Meanwhile, Funke was quoted as giving birth to this text which is currently trending as regards the issue: “I read in the newspaper yesterday that I am divorced. What proof do you have? And I’m taking this to court because my marriage is intact. You guys are rumor mongers. Funke Akindele-Oloyede”.
More facts, no doubt, will unfold in the coming days, weeks and months as far as this raging issue is concerned.   Dear readers what is your take ?
